Danish cellist and teacher Erling Blöndal Bengtsson, who died on 5 June 2013, gave an interview to The Strad last year to mark his 80th birthday. He spoke to fellow cellist Jeffrey Solow who, like him, had studied under Gregor Piatigorsky at the Curtis institute of Music: as well as reminiscing about their shared experiences, they talked about matters of cello technique, commissioning and performing new works, and playing with artists such as Pablo Casals and William Walton.
