Cellist Ben Davies is to join Birmingham Conservatoire’s strings department when the UK music school moves in to its new £57m home later this year.
Davies, who tutors BBC Young Musician 2016 winner Sheku Kanneh-Mason, has previously taught at the Royal Academy of Music, Royal Holloway University of London, Marlborough College, Wells Cathedral School and the Guildhall School of Music.
He has performed with a wide range of artists and orchestras, including Shirley Bassey, Peter Gabriel, the City of London Sinfonia and Garsington Opera Orchestra, and has served as principal cellist of the English Touring Opera orchestra since 2000.
'I am honoured to be invited by [Birmingham Conservatoire] principal Julian Lloyd Webber to join the cello department at the newly located Birmingham Conservatoire,' said Davies. 'I very much look forward to working with the cello students and am excited to be involved with the musical life of the Conservatoire in its new home.'
