The ensemble members will ‘pursue other musical activities’
The Rubens Quartet has announced that the 2015-16 season will be its final one. In a statement published on the ensemble’s website, violinists Sarah Kapustin and Tali Goldberg, violist Roeland Jagers and cellist Joachim Eijlander write: ‘The quartet has been at the centre of our professional lives since the year 2000 and we look back on those years with much gratefulness and satisfaction. Now we feel that it is the right time for us all to pursue other musical activities that will present us with interesting new challenges.’
Since forming 15 years ago, the quartet has toured the US eleven times, and has also performed regularly in France, the UK, Israel, Hungary, Romania and Italy. A champion of contemporary music, the ensemble has worked with composers György Kurtág, Louis Andriessen, Sofia Gubaidulina and Joey Roukens, and has championed the importance of music education, introducing its own chamber music programme into schools throughout the Netherlands.
In June 2012 The Strad praised the quartet’s recording of Mozart and Joey Roukens on its own label as ‘imaginatively done’ and ‘incisive and sparkling’.
