The Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) has unveiled the shortlist
for its annual music awards. The awards are among the most
prestigious given for live classical music-making in the UK.
The Elias Quartet (pictured) and Sheffield-based promoter Music in
the Round are both shortlisted in the Chamber Music and Song
category. Two of the three nominees for the Chamber-Scale
Composition award are works for string quartet: Colin Matthews's
String Quartet no.4 and Fletch by Rebecca Saunders.
Other nominees include the Britten Sinfonia in the Ensemble
category, and the Heath Quartet for the Young Artists award.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel
in London on 14 May 2013.
