Violinist and conductor Henri Temianka gives some thoughts on the teaching style of his former tutor Carl Flesch, on the occasion of the latter’s 60th birthday

It is one of the most interesting experiences that a violinist can have to be present while Professor Flesch teaches. He has brushed aside all the absurd habits for which teachers of old used to be notorious. No more playing with the pupil, thereby making it impossible to properly listen to his performance. No more interrupting him every few notes, thereby making the pupil nervous and preventing him from doing himself justice…
