Turn the corner

First I would like to congratulate The Strad for another excellent poster with detailed study of the ‘Salabue, Martzy’ Bergonzi violin (‘Resplendent harmony’, July 2024). However, there is one very important detail that appears to have been overlooked. All the corners of this violin have been shortened! As discussed in the article, Count Cozio states in his notes that the violin is ‘intact’ and called it ‘my largest and most beautiful Bergonzi’. However, he also says: ‘the corners were too long, and he had them blunted.’…
