A 1783 Guadagnini violin owned by Lorin Maazel will feature in Tarisio's 10 November sale in New York. The 81-year-old conductor and violinist has had the instrument since he was 15 years old. Tarisio has placed an estimate of $800,000–$1,200,000 on the violin, and proceeds from the sale will support the Castleton Festival that Maazel launched in 2009 as the centrepiece of his Chateauville Foundation, which helps young instrumentalists, singers and conductors to develop in their professional careers.
