The Louisville Orchestra management has said it will begin
hiring replacement musicians this month, reports the
Courier-Journal.
The orchestra players, who have been in negotiation with management
for almost a year, had proposed that both sides work with an
orchestra industry professional who would have up to a year to
issue binding recommendations – during which time the musicians
would play on a one-year 'bridge' contract. But management rejected
this idea, saying that such a contract would cost the orchestra
more than it could afford, and that an arbitrator should not have
the power to make decisions regarding management.
The Louisville Orchestra has now issued a call for auditions for
all instruments, advertising a minimum weekly salary of $925 with a
guaranteed minimum of 30 weeks' employment.
