The eight-year-old son of violinist Anna Lipkind-Mazor and cellist Gavriel Lipkind has a rare and aggressive form of cancer that requires specialist treatment in Barcelona
A GoFundMe page has been established to help cover medical costs for a violin-cello duo’s eight-year-old son, who has an aggressive form of cancer.
In 2019, violinist Anna Lipkind-Mazor and cellist Gavriel Lipkind discovered a small lump in the neck of their son, Adam, who was three at the time. Following years of numerous medical appointments and misdiagnoses, Adam was diagnosed in 2023 with a rare and aggressive cancer called Ganglioneuroblastoma nodular.
Adam underwent surgery, but the cancer has returned and spread quickly to his bones.
The Lipkinds are aiming to raise €800,000 to cover their medical expenses. They have taken their son to the world’s top pediatric oncology centres, including Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York, Princess Máxima Center in Utrecht, and Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona.
Adam’s best chance for recovery lies in the clinic in Barcelona, where he would receive an immunotherapy drug early in treatment, plus a shorter, more intensive chemotherapy plan that avoids transplantation.
‘As parents, there’s nothing we won’t do to save our son’s life,’ the couple stated on their GoFundMe page. ’Adam is only eight; he has so much left to experience, so many dreams yet to chase.
‘Your support – no matter how big or small – can make a world of difference. Please, consider donating and sharing our story. Your kindness brings us closer to the hope that Adam can grow up, healthy and free from this terrible illness.’
The initiative has raised nearly €40,000 as of 30 October. View and donate to the fundraiser here.
The Lipkinds are based in Amsterdam and have an enjoyed an extensive performing career worldwide. The pair were members of the Lipkind Quartet until it disbanded in 2018. Anna Lipkind-Mazor founded the Amsterdam Concert Series in 2023 and is now the head of artistic programming at ConcertLab BV.
