Violinist David Chan steps down as head of the programme, while violinists Julia Choi and Jeremías Sergiani-Velázquez join the faculty
The Manhattan School of Music (MSM) has announced a number of changes to its orchestral programme. Violinist David Chan will be departing his role as chair of the programme, a position he has held since 2022. He is succeeded by trumpeter David Krauss.
Among the new appointments to the programme faculty is Argentine violinist Jeremías Sergiani-Velázquez. He has studied at New England Conservatory, the Juilliard School, and at the Manhattan School of Music with Sylvia Rosenberg. He is currently a second violin with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and has performed with ensembles including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
Korean–American violinist Julia Choi, who has taught on the MSM precollege faculty, will be joining the college classical division faculty to teach orchestral repertoire. She is a graduate of the Juilliard School and the MSM orchestral programme, studying with Glenn Dicterow, and is also a first violin with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
The other appointments were oboist John Upton and trumpeter Ethan Bensdorf as chair of brass.
