‘I also want to say how devasted I am that many of the concerts I was due to give this year are disappearing. It was a very special year for me - my final year on the concert platform as I had planned to retire from the concert platform in August. As events have continued, many promoters and members of the public have written to ask whether I would please delay my retirement.’
‘After much thought I have decided to wait until the end of the year before stepping down from the concert platform…so fingers crossed, come the autumn, I will be able to stilll see some of you at my concerts, all the ones I’m going to be able to rearrange.’
The violinist finishes with a performance of the Gigue from Bach’s Violin Partita in E major: ‘I think a lot of people are turning to Bach in these troubled times and I think that’s a good idea.’
