The 24-year-old Czech violinist takes home the top prize of CZK 200,000 ($8,400) in addition to two special awards
Olga Šroubková has been named the winner of the 2017 Prague Spring International Violin Competition.
The 24-year-old Czech violinist triumphed in the final, performing Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leoš Svárovský, and takes home the top prize of CZK200,000 ($8,400). She also receives two special prizes for the best performance of the Czech Rhapsody and the best performance of the competition set work by David Lukáš.
Second prize, worth CZK100,000 ($4,200), went to Yurina Arai from Japan, while third prize, worth CZK50,000 ($2,100), went to Hana Chang from the USA.
Winner of the Rodolfo Lipizer International Violin Competition in 2016, Olga Šroubková is a graduate of the Prague Conservatory and is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik in Hanover with Adam Kostecký.
The Prague Spring International Music Competition is held in different instrument categories each year, and in 2017 was devoted to violin and harpsichord. This year's violin jury comprised Ivan Ženatý, Clemens Hellsberg, Liana Isakadze, Shizuka Ishikawa, Ida Kavafian, Bohuslav Matoušek and Gérard Poulet.
