The Pacifica Quartet has been appointed quartet in residence at
the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. The ensemble is the
first quartet to hold a residency at the school in more than 50
years. The quartet's members – violinists Simin Ganatra and Sibbi
Bernhardsson, violist Masumi Per Rostad and cellist Brandon Vamos –
will join the school's full-time faculty in autumn 2012.
The Pacifica is serving the last year of a nine-year residency at
the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and is completing a
three-year residency at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The ensemble, which received a Grammy award in 2009 for its
recording of Elliott Carter's String Quartets nos. 1 & 5, also
holds the position of 'resident performing artists' at the
University of Chicago.
