The violin pedagogue and soloist discusses how to help students become musically creative
Does age affect a student’s ability to interpret music?
It’s a very individual thing. I have private students in their seventies; in Hannover, I teach students ranging in age from 13 to their early twenties. The more talented and curious they are, the more likely they are to interpret the music intuitively. But sometimes less talented students who have to work harder end up with more interesting interpretations, because they have to think harder about how to achieve certain effects.
