Who most influenced your teaching style?
My teacher, Jane Cowan, played with Pablo Casals in Donald Tovey’s classes at Edinburgh University as a schoolgirl, and later studied with Emanuel Feuermann. She was my biggest inspiration and eventually we became colleagues at the International Cello Centre (ICC) – a day school in London dedicated to cello teaching, which later became a full-time residential course for students in Scotland. We ran this together, in the tradition of Casals and Feuermann.
