French composer and producer Victor le Masne has been appointed as the musical director for all four ceremonies and the composer of the official musical theme for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Le Masne has composed an official musical theme entitled ‘Parade’. This composition seamlessly integrates symphonic and electronic elements, capturing the dynamic and universal spirit of the Paris 2024 Games.

The Olympic Games symbolise unity across geographical and cultural divides, with music playing a vital role in nurturing this spirit. I am honoured and excited to contribute to the extraordinary experience of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games as the Composer of the Official Musical Theme and the Musical Director of the Ceremonies. My journey began when I was asked by the committee in 2021 to create a new version of the French national anthem, La Marseillaise, for the handover ceremony during the Tokyo 2020 Closing Ceremony, welcoming Paris 2024. This experience with the French National Orchestra marked a significant milestone, allowing me to reharmonise the anthem while preserving its essence.

For the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, I focus on narrative and scenario, using music to deepen emotional connections and guide viewers through the spectacle. It’s about guiding people through this great shared experience and creating moments of pride and joy. The process demands intense focus amid the whirlwind of events, but it’s a privilege to navigate this journey, and collaborating with orchestras is particularly fulfilling. Despite my background in electronic and pop music, working extensively with orchestras like the Orchestre National de France has been a transformative experience. At first, there’s curiosity and mutual respect as we bridge our musical worlds. Ultimately, it’s about achieving harmony as a collective entity, where every musician’s personality enriches the ensemble’s collective voice.

Music transcends language barriers, uniting people globally. When I composed ‘Parade’, I aimed to create a composition that resonates universally, encapsulating the values of the Olympics – generosity, inclusivity, and sincerity. The title ‘Parade’ draws inspiration from diverse sources, reflecting the multifaceted nature of my music. There are striking parallels between classical music and athletics – discipline, improvisation, and the pursuit of excellence bind these worlds. Witnessing the dedication of musicians mirrors the journey of athletes striving for mastery in their craft.
