A highlight of Amati's March sale in London was an English
double bass believed to have been made in the capital and estimated
at £8,000–£12,000, which fetched £28,000. In the same sale the
top-selling instrument was an Italian violin by David Tecchler
(pictured), which sold for £100,000, followed by a violin by
Fagnola from 1924, which made £60,000.
Tarisio's top lots included an Italian violin by Francesco Ruggeri
from 1694, which had an estimate of £150,000–£220,000 and sold for
£189,000, and another Italian violin by Lorenzo Storioni, 1790,
which sold for £231,000 on an estimate of £200,000–£300,000.
At Brompton's the highest-selling instruments were an Italian cello
by Nicolò Gagliano, 1767, which fetched £228,000 on an estimate of
£200,000–£300,000, and a violin by Gennaro Gagliano, c.1750, which
