A new community music school in Vancouver opens for business on
2 August, with classes starting in September. The VSO School of
Music is a project of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, 32 of whose
players are on the new school's 49-strong faculty. Individual and
group classes will be available, and children from as young as
three months will be taught Colourstrings.
The school is equipped with 18 teaching rooms, 6 practice rooms, 2
ensemble rooms and a high-tech recital hall. The school has the
capacity to teach 1,500 students every week, but there are also
video conferencing facilities that will provide distance learning
opportunities for rural populations in British Columbia.
