In this recent performance from violinist Augustin Hadelich, the violinist perform an encore by Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson Louisiana Blues Strut: A Cakewalk for Violin.
Perkinson was an African American composer who was a huge part of the New York music scene throughout the 20th century. Born in 1932 to a pianist mother, he studied music at High School of Music and Art in New York City, New York University, later transferring to the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied composition. Perkinson was renowned for writing a lot of classical music, but being equally versed in jazz and popular music.
