Violinist Veronika Eberle, violist Antoine Tamestit and cellist Sol Gabetta came together for a performance of string trios at the Festival Pablo Casals de Prades on 7 August 2023. The concert, at the Abbaye Saint-Michel de Cuxa, featured three Stradivari instruments: Eberle plays the 1700 ‘Dragonetti’ violin, Tamestit the 1672 ‘Mahler’ viola, and Gabetta the 1717 ’Bonamy Dobree-Suggia’ cello. Here they perform Beethoven’s String Trio in G major op.9 no.1.
This year’s festival marks the 50th anniversary of Casals’ death on 22 October 2023. The October issue of The Strad will feature an article on Casals’ interpretation of the Bach Cello Suites, and how its contnuing influence on succeeding generations of cellists.
