Croatian-born violinist Bojan Čičić performs Johann Jakob Walther Scherzi da Violino Solo, no.10 Imitation del Cuccu with his group the Illyria Consort at St Martin’s Church in East Woodhay, Hampshire.
The recording forms part of his new album Johann Jakob Walther: Scherzi da violino, released on Friday 26 August with Delphian Records.
Having recorded all of Walther’s Scherzi da Violino - 12 in total - Čičić believes Walther’s music should be ’essential listening for anyone seeking a fuller understanding of Bach’s polyphonic writing for the instrument.’
Čičić originally founded the Illyria Consort to explore rare repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries from the Venetian Republic and the Habsburg Empire. Since then, the group has performed in early music festivals all over Europe including the Korkyra Baroque Festival in Croatia, Laus Polyphoniae Festival in Belgium and Festival de Sablé in France. Its debut recording of Giovanni Stefano Carbonelli’s Sonate da camera Nos. 1-6 was chosen as one of Presto Classical’s ’Presto Recordings of the Year’ in 2017.
The recording is a Delphian Records production, filmed by foxbrush.co.uk.
