On 1 May 2023, violinist Anne Akiko Meyers was presented with an honorary doctorate from her alma mater, the Colburn School Conservatory of Music. In accepting the honour, Meyers gave the keynote speech, offering inspiring words of wisdom to the graduating class.
’Like my daughter Natalie’s favourite Harry Potter says, “the wand chooses its wizard”. You young wizards have been chosen to share your music with the world,’ Meyers said.
She also gives anecdotes about her own experiences throughout her career, including how she wanted to quit playing the violin at the age of 20, as well as her stories of commissioning new works from composers. She concludes with a performance of Somewhere over the rainbow by Harold Arlen.
