Nikita Boriso-Glebsky has won first prize at the Sibelius Violin
Competition in Helsinki. The 25-year-old, who studies with Augustin
Dumay at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels, received
€20,000, plus €2,000 for the best interpretation of the Sibelius
concerto. Second prize went to Finnish violinist Petteri Iivonen,
23. Sixteen-year-old Esther Yoo, from the US, came third.
Boriso-Glebsky's win is his third major competition success of
2010: he won third prize at the Montreal International Music
Competition in June, and first prize at the Kreisler competition in
Vienna in September.
