Included in Regazzi’s workshop is a full set of The Strad magazine from 1890!
I’ve been making instruments for 53 years, originally in the basement of my parents’ house. I used to make mainly guitars but in 1971 I met the Bologna violin maker Otello Bignami who became my mentor when I completed my first two years of physics at Bologna University. He taught me in his house for a while, and them I moved to a workshop in via Angelo Musco, in the centre of town, which I still own. In 1996 I bought a house in the mountains, 30 minutes’ drive from Bologna, where I carried out most of my new making, but in 2018 I bought a new property on the outskirts of the city, which took more than a year to renovate and build my ideal workshop. It was finally ready in 2020, just before the pandemic took hold. Now I spend most of my working life in this atelier, and go to the one in the town centre once a week…
