Here we see evidence of where the cracks have been repaired...'
Musical instrument expert Kerry Keane examines the internal structure of an early long-pattern Stradivari violin with an endoscope.
The violin is one of eight Stradivari and Guarneri instruments for private sale as part of Christie’s ‘Art of Music’ exhibition, taking place in Shanghai and Hong Kong from 14 October to 29 November.
Sponsored by Steinway & Sons, the exhibition will be accompanied by lectures, art forums and recitals, tracing the history of violin making throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, and placing the achievements of Stradivari and Guarneri with a broader cultural context.
